US Congress staff delegation visits Representatives Council

Manama, Feb. 20 (BNA): The House of Representatives received today a delegation of US Congress employees, as part of their official visit to the Kingdom.

The General Secretariat of the Council of Representatives gave a presentation on the parliamentary process in the Kingdom of Bahrain since the launch of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s reform project, the democratic process and the comprehensive development process.

The General Secretariat affirmed the legislature’s keenness to strengthen parliamentary diplomatic relations and exchange experiences with the US Congress.

The Council also reviewed the formation of the National Assembly, which consists of two chambers, the terms of reference of both chambers, and their cooperation with the government, especially in the legislative fields, in accordance with the National Action Charter and the constitutional amendments of 2012.

The presentation also shed light on the competences of the House of Representatives, its work mechanisms, services and achievements.

The General Secretariat briefed the delegation of US congressional staff on its specific programs during the sixth legislative term.

The US Congress delegation praised the efforts of the Bahraini government and the pioneering parliamentary march at the regional level, stressing the need for continued exchange of visits and experiences between the two legislative authorities in the two countries.

The two sides also discussed ways to activate parliamentary diplomacy and coordinate positions in various international parliamentary gatherings in a way that achieves the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples.
