US Assistant Secretary of State: We look forward to deepening relations with partners, friendly countries in the region

Manama, Nov. 20 (BNA): US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara A. Leaf commitment of the United States of America to the Persian Gulf. She praised the long-term relations and cooperation between the United States of America and the Arab Gulf states.


In a statement to Bahrain News Agency (BNA) on the sidelines of her participation in the 18th Manama Dialogue Forum, she affirmed the United States of America’s keenness to deepen relations with partners and friendly countries in the region. She said that these relations proved their contribution to preserving the interests of all.


The US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs referred to a wide range of areas of cooperation, including defense, education, culture and trade. She emphasized that the relations between the United States of America, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the countries of the region are long-standing and deeply rooted. She pointed to the need for countries at present to have more cohesion to face multiple challenges, mainly including climate change, which requires collective action.


Leif expressed her happiness at attending the security summit, pointing to her meetings with a number of officials in the Kingdom of Bahrain, during which a number of regional issues and challenges were discussed.


The US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs confirmed that the signing of the Abraham Accords in 2020 opened an important chapter in the region. She indicated the United States’ keenness on further cooperation with the Bahraini and Emirati governments to build on the achievement, describing the Negev Forum as a permanent structure.
