United States, South Korea stage air drills despite North Korean complaints

Seoul, Feb. 3 (BNA): The United States and South Korea conducted exercises for the second time in a week today, Friday, with some of their latest warplanes, despite North Korean complaints that the exercises are increasing tensions on the peninsula.

The two countries conducted joint air exercises over the sea to the west of the Korean Peninsula on Friday, with warplanes such as the South Korean F35A, and the US F-22 and F-35B participating, Reuters quoted the South Korean military as saying. in the current situation.

It said in a statement that the air forces of the two countries “will continue to enhance joint exercises to have strong response capabilities and readiness against North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats.”

Last year, North Korea conducted a record number of ballistic missile tests, which are prohibited by UN Security Council resolutions. It was also noted for reopening its closed nuclear weapons testing site, raising expectations of a nuclear test for the first time since 2017.

North Korea’s foreign ministry said Thursday that previous exercises by the United States and its allies had reached an “extreme red line” and threatened to turn the peninsula into a “massive war arsenal and an even more dangerous war zone”.
