UK rail workers union suspend Network Rail strikes after new pay offer

London, March 8 (BNA): Britain’s trade union RMT said it had suspended all strikes at Network Rail following a new offer from the employer following a long-running wage dispute that led to months of strikes in the transport sector.

The union said in a statement that the RMT National Executive Committee had taken the decision to suspend all industrial actions on Network Rail after receiving a new offer from the employer.

We look forward to more information on the referendum plans,” said Network Rail CEO Andrew Haines.

The latest announcement from Britain’s largest union of railway workers comes after months of strikes by union members over salaries, jobs and conditions.

Separately, the planned strike by union members working for the 14 companies operating the trains is expected to continue on March 16, 18, 30 and April 1.

Britain was hit by a wave of industrial strikes by hundreds of thousands of workers, as wages failed to keep pace with rising inflation and a deepening cost of living crisis.
