UEFA orders Union Berlin partial stadium closure over fans racist behavior

ZURICH (Reuters) – UEFA ordered the Berlin Football Association on Friday to close part of their stadium for their upcoming European match due to the “racist behavior” of its fans during a Europa League match last month.

UEFA said the incident occurred during Union Berlin’s 3-0 group stage win over Israel’s Maccabi Haifa at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on September 30.

In addition to closing two sections where local fans sit, the board of directors also ordered Union Berlin to display a banner with the words “#NoToRacism” at their next UEFA competition match.

Union Berlin’s next match is at home in the European Conference League on 4 November against Feyenoord.
