UEFA head backs Morocco joining Europe’s WCup bid

Geneva, April 5 (BNA): Once he was opposed to running to host the 2030 World Cup with another continent, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin, on Wednesday, provided popular support for Morocco’s accession to the European candidacy.

“I think it’s a good idea,” Ceferin told a news conference in Lisbon after the UEFA congress. “It makes sense to join Morocco. Morocco is very, very close to Spain and Portugal.”

Morocco joined the long-planned showdown between Spain and Portugal last month, which is enjoying a new status in soccer after eliminating Spain and Portugal in a stunning run to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, reports the Associated Press.

In 2018, Morocco was the losing bid in the 2026 World Cup competition won by the United States, Canada and Mexico, and immediately committed to trying again for the next edition.
