Rome, October 9 (US): Udinese never gave up. The latest example of his fighting spirit is as he bounced back from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Serie A leaders Atalanta on Sunday.
Nihuen Pérez and Gerard Deulofeu canceled out Ademola Lookman and Luis Morell’s goals to allow Udinese to save a point and move up with defending champions AC Milan and Napoli in the league table, a point behind Atalanta.
Udinese have won their past six games, and four of those victories came after Andrea Sutil’s team were trailing off initially, according to the Associated Press.
The match was played at a high intensity but there were few chances to score before Atalanta broke the deadlock nine minutes from the end of the first half. Muriel ran a Teun Koopmeiners ball too long over the top, cut inside from the left and rolled it through Lookman to take advantage of the back post.
Atalanta doubled their lead early in the second half after Muriel was tripped by Udinese defender Destiny Odoji. Jokes rained from the stands but that did not distract Muriel, who took the penalty in the lower left corner.
Udinese reduced the difference when Deulofeu scored a free kick in the 67th minute and his hand was also in the equalizer with a pass to Roberto Pereira, who sent a cross to Perez to return to the net.
