Two dead, five wounded in shooting at Los Angeles park

Los Angeles, July 26 (BNA) Two people were killed and five others were injured in a Los Angeles park shooting today, Sunday, after a shooting at an unofficial car showroom in the town of San Pedro, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Reuters quoted Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey as saying that paramedics took seven people to area hospitals, two of whom, a man and a woman, died of their injuries.

Humphrey said the shooting victims, four men and three women, ranged in age from 23 to 54, but he could not provide any information about the cause of the confrontation.

Humphrey said the auto show was an informal gathering, not an officially scheduled event. As part of Southern California’s auto culture, classic car owners and low-end riders often gather in public to show off their rides.

Peck Park is a community center in San Pedro that contains a baseball diamond, a skate park, a gymnasium, and walking trails, according to the city’s parks and recreation site.

San Pedro, on the southwest edge of the city, is home to the Port of Angeles, the largest container terminal in the United States.

The police have not yet reported whether they have identified any suspects.

Officer Luis Garcia said that although police did not provide any details of the shooting, they were quickly able to rule out classifying it as an active shooting case, indicating that officers did not see an ongoing risk of indiscriminate mass shootings.
