Tropical Storm Nicole forces evacuations in Bahamas, Florida

Miami, Nov. 9 (BUS): Tropical Storm Nicole forced people from their homes in the Bahamas and threatened to turn into a rare November hurricane in Florida on Wednesday, as it closed airports and Disney World while urging evacuation orders that included former President Donald Trump. Mar Alago Club.

Hundreds of people took shelter in the northwest Bahamas before the storm approached, which has already washed seawater through roads on Florida’s barrier islands, according to the Associated Press.

The US National Hurricane Center said the center of the sprawling storm made landfall on Great Abaco Island around midday with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph.

“We expect it to become a hurricane as it approaches the northwest Bahamas, and to remain a hurricane as it approaches the east coast of Florida,” Danielle Brown, chief hurricane specialist at the Miami-based National Hurricane Center, said earlier Wednesday.

Early Wednesday, President Joe Biden declared a state of emergency in Florida and ordered federal assistance to supplement state, tribal, and local response efforts to the impending storm.

FEMA is still responding to those in need from Hurricane Ian.
