Transportation Ministry announces Bahrain Metro Project launch

Manama, November 30 (BNA) The Ministry of Transport and Communications announced the launch of a pre-qualification tender for the Bahrain Metro Project (Phase I) for local and international companies with experience in the field of public transport.

This step comes in the wake of the government’s announcement of the economic recovery plan that was launched in accordance with the royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad, which was announced by the Council of Ministers headed by His Royal Highness, Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The project is one of the most important strategic projects in the Kingdom that aims to support economic growth by attracting more foreign direct investments and major multinational companies, thus enhancing the competitiveness of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Bahrain Metro project is considered one of the most important road transport projects that provides a new sustainable means of transportation in the Kingdom, with the aim of achieving Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030. The project is part of the strategic projects plan and comes as part of the government’s priorities. Projects worth over $30 billion. The Minister of Transport and Communications, Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, said that the plan to develop an integrated public transport network will contribute to raising the efficiency of transport services in the Kingdom.

“The Bahrain Metro Project Phase One will be implemented in line with the latest international standards in the industry, and will be fully automated.

The first phase of the project will be implemented with the private sector as an integrated public-private partnership, and the prequalification bidding phase is the first step to identify a qualified and appropriately experienced individual company or consortium with relevant expertise to design, build, finance, operate, maintain and transfer the project (DBFOMT mode)” .

Bahrain Metro Project Phase One will contain two lines with a total length of 29 km and 20 stations connecting Muharraq, Manama, Diplomatic District, Juffair, Seef District, Tubli, Al Adhari and Isa Town.
