Tourism spending in Bahrain exceeds target by 7%

London, November 10 (BNA) Tourism Minister Fatima bint Jaafar Al-Sirafi said that spending by the tourism sector in Bahrain during the first nine months of 2022 exceeded the main targets of the sector by 7%.

Al-Serafy said, during her participation in a session at the London World Travel Market (WTM), that the Kingdom recorded better than the global average for growth.

According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the tourism sector has recovered nearly 60% of its pre-pandemic levels globally, while Bahrain has achieved more than 80%, which confirms the commitment to the tourism sector strategy within the economic recovery plan.

The minister pointed to the Kingdom’s support for global efforts aimed at achieving sustainable tourism that ensures the continued benefit of the vital resource for current and future generations.

She stressed the importance of inclusiveness, ensuring a fair benefit for all countries from tourism revenues in terms of economic development, and providing quality opportunities.

She highlighted the importance of digital technology in the development of the tourism industry:

“Technology has changed the way we work and travel and has made things simpler, safer and more efficient, but our tourism experiences are still human. Interaction between people and the exchange of experiences is fundamental to making tourism more enjoyable; technology can enable it, not replace it.”
