Tottenham, Liverpool come from behind to avoid FA Cup upsets

London, January 9 (BUS): Tottenham and Liverpool came from behind to avoid embarrassment at home by third-tier rivals in the FA Cup on Sunday, the Associated Press reported.

A bit of luck proved crucial in Spurs’ turnaround from the third round. With his side trailing 1-0 at Morecambe after 73 minutes, Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks sent a free kick from near the corner flag on the left wing and the ball flew over everyone and into the top corner.

Substitutes Lucas Moura and Harry Kane added more goals in the final five minutes for Tottenham, who denied Morecambe a place in the fourth round for the first time in their 101-year history.

Liverpool won 4-1 but started their comeback much earlier, tying seven minutes after falling 27 minutes behind against Shrewsbury.

Kaede Gordon, one of four teenagers to make a start in Liverpool’s youth squad, became the second youngest scorer in the club’s history – at 17 years and 96 days old – with a superb 1-1 goal before Fabinho netted either side. A wonderful back-heeled goal from fellow Brazilian Roberto Firmino, who participated as a substitute.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has returned to the training center after spending some time in isolation after testing positive for coronavirus.

Two teams, Wolverhampton and Norwich, also advanced in the English Premier League after beating the lower league teams. Arsenal were playing second tier Nottingham Forest later on Sunday.
