Top-ranked Medvedev set to defend title in Montreal

MONTREAL Aug 9 (BUS): seed and defending champion Daniil Medvedev was unfazed by frustrating rain-induced delays on Monday at the National Bank Open, according to the Associated Press.

It is one of the advantages of his ranking higher in the men’s singles. Medvedev received a first-round farewell as the top seed and likely won’t play his opening match until Wednesday.

While many of his ATP Tour peers were stuck waiting to see when the rains would subside, the confident Russian star was able to relax knowing he just had to adjust his training schedule.

Medvedev held court with reporters during his 15-minute stay before continuing preparations for his title defense.

He enters the competition frequently after winning in Mexico over the weekend. Medvedev never dropped a set in the tournament en route to winning his 14th ATP title.
