Three people injured in riots against far-right group in Sweden

Stockholm, April 18 (BNA) Three people in the Swedish city of Norrkoping needed medical attention after they were shot by police during clashes between police and protesters after the Quran burning that caused riots in several Swedish towns over the Easter holiday.

In some places, counter-demonstrators attacked police ahead of planned far-right demonstrations. Prime Minister Magdalena Anderson condemned the violence.

“It appears that three people have reflux and are now receiving treatment in hospital. The three injured have been arrested on suspicion of crimes,” the police said in an online statement, adding that none of the injuries were life-threatening.

Police said the situation in Norrkoping was calm Sunday evening, Reuters reported.

Serious clashes took place between the police and the demonstrators during the past days, where a number of policemen were injured and several cars were burned.

The violence began on Thursday after a demonstration organized by Rasmus Paludan, leader of the Danish far-right Hard Line party. Palaudan, who has received permission for a series of demonstrations across Sweden during the Easter holiday, is famous for burning the Koran.
