Vienna, Dec. 24 (BNA): More than 8000 forged vaccination certificates were issued in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen, according to a statement issued by regional officials today, Thursday.
Investigations now focus on a group of employees working at a private testing center for Covid-19, whose work has given them access to the national Covid-19 certification system, dpa reports.
Suspects face up to five years in prison or fines. According to the cantonal administration, those who paid large sums for fake vaccination certificates received penalties or fines.
Illegal certificates are no longer valid. With a vaccination rate of around 61 per cent of the population, St. Gallen is among the poorest performing of all Swiss cantons. Overall, the vaccination rate in Switzerland is around 67%.
