Thousands in Italy demonstrate against government’s Covid policies

Rome, November 14 (BNA): Thousands of people have taken to the streets of cities across Italy against the government’s policies to contain the coronavirus.

About 4,000 people gathered at the Arco della Pace in the northern city of Milan on Saturday, German news agency dpa reported, ANSA news agency reported.

Robert Kennedy Jr., the nephew of former US President John F. Kennedy, known for his opposition to vaccination, spoke at the event.

Among other things, protesters are rejecting the so-called green corridor that allows those who have been vaccinated, recovered from infection or have been tested to access certain events and places. Some are also against Covid-19 vaccinations outright.

Strict rules apply at the assembly in Milan. The Ministry of Interior ruled during the week that the demonstrations should remain in one place or follow certain routes only.

Previously, Saturday rallies passed through historic centers, disrupting business activities. In some cases, there were clashes with the police.

In Rome, about 400 people came to the square of the ancient Circus Maximus, according to the authorities.

In the northern city of Turin, many people walked around the city chanting “liberta” (freedom) and “la guenti come noi non mola mai” (people like us never give up).
