The Kingdom of Bahrain authorises the emergency use of oral COVID-19 antiviral, Paxlovid

Manama, Jan. 1 (BNA) The National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) today approved the emergency use of the oral antiviral COVID-19, Baxilvid. This medication is approved for individuals 18 years of age and older who have mild to moderate symptoms and are at increased risk of severe, potentially fatal COVID-19 virus infection.

The decision follows an evaluation of data provided by manufacturer Pfizer, which was conducted by the NHRA’s Department of Pharmaceutical Product Regulation (PPR).

The authority indicated that the Ministry of Health has started import procedures in accordance with the relevant standards and requirements, and the drug is expected to arrive next January.

Baxilovid consists of two types of antiviral medicines packaged together (PF-07321332 and Ritonavir) that are designed to prevent the virus that causes COVID-19 from multiplying in the body and thus help sufferers overcome a viral infection.
