The Kingdom of Bahrain announces its intention to bring carbon emissions to net zero by 2060.

Manama, October 24 (BNA) The Council of Ministers of the Kingdom of Bahrain today announced its intention to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2060. The Kingdom has already reduced emissions while developing the national economy by placing clean, green and sustainable growth at the heart of Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.

The Kingdom will adopt a circular carbon economy supported by various compensation schemes including carbon capture technology and afforestation.

His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Dina, Special Envoy for Climate Affairs and CEO of the Supreme Council for the Environment, said:

The Kingdom’s commitment to protecting the environment remains unwavering. Several measures have been taken to improve environmental protection across the kingdom, led by His Majesty the King and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The government is committed to ensuring an environment that promotes sustainable development and supports future generations.

Climate change is a global challenge that requires cooperation and shared responsibility. We encourage other countries to join the global community in achieving sustainable development by unleashing the potential of a greener economy and working together to keep 1.5° alive.
