Ten Mexican miners trapped in coal mine, three rescued

Mexico City Aug 4 (BUS): Rescuers in Mexico, including dozens of soldiers, have worked hard to reach ten miners trapped in a flooded coal mine after an inner wall collapsed, the ministry said.

Update on rescue efforts at the mine in Sabinas municipality in the northern state of Coahuila, the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection said three miners were rescued and taken to hospital.

Television footage showed family members outside the mine demanding information about the missing.

“I hope we find them safe,” Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said.

Lopez Obrador said nine miners were likely trapped, but authorities later revised the number.

The president said about 92 soldiers are working at the site, as well as specialists and rescue dogs.

The Labor Department said it had not received any safety complaints at the mine, which began operations in January.
