Team Bahrain face tricky conditions on first day of practice in Rotax MAX Grand Finals

Team Bahrain faces challenging conditions on the first day of practice at the Rotax MAX Grand Finals<br />

Portimao Nov. 24 (BNA): After two days of registering drivers and handing out the kart, Monday I got to work on the track in earnest ahead of the 2022 Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals in Portimao, Portugal.

Thus the Bahrain team drivers faced conditions that the drivers weren’t as familiar with as their European counterparts, but nonetheless, it was a positive day for the team.

The 23rd edition of the Grand Final started on a wet track thanks to a light drizzle that lasted all night in the Algarve, which meant some of the classes had to run wet weather tires earlier in the day. As the day progressed the course dried up and the pace picked up dramatically but later in the afternoon the rain returned.

The first sessions of the day were mainly for the drivers to prepare and prepare their new karts and their Rotax engines, for the following days’ qualifying and heat races.

The Bahrain team this year is represented by: Micro, Yousef Al Ghaith (10), Bahrain; Minnie, Khalid Najjar (11), Bahrain; Junior, Mohamed Wali (14), South Africa/Poland; Kabir, Najash Rashdan (23), Bahrain; and DD2, Suleiman Al-Kandari (18), Kuwait.

While his teammates dealt with difficult conditions, Mohammed Wali showed solid pace throughout the day, finishing third in the Junior Class, yet signaled his intent as he gave Team Bahrain hope for a strong result in the MAX Junior Class.

Hassan Al Shehabi, Director of Bahrain International Karting Center and Team Bahrain Manager, summed it up for the day. He said: “Ren is always a challenge for drivers not based in Europe, so it was no surprise that some of our team members were nervous. But once the event started they all gave their best.

“We are very pleased with Mohammed Wali’s performance, he has been among the pace setters from the start, both in the dry and the wet, while the wet track has provided the likes of Yousef Al Ghaith, Khaled Najjar, Najashi Rashdan and Suleiman Al Kandari with invaluable experience in these conditions.

“All in all, a strong day for Team Bahrain, as the serious side of the Grand Finals begins after the last training day on Tuesday. The spirit in the team is high, and the confidence is building.”

Tuesday is another day of practice, followed by qualifying heat races in the coming days, with the finals set for Saturday, November 26.
