Your role and responsibilities

As the tax manager in Egypt, you will oversee all tax aspects of IBM’s operations in the country. This includes regulatory requirements as well as supporting our business activities (including sales, distribution, servicing, and International Shared Service Centers).

You will handle all matters relating to corporate income tax, withholding tax and VAT/GST, including taking responsibility for relationships with external service providers and controlling engagement to manage tax filing and tax payments. You will coordinate tax audits and the relationship with tax authorities. You will be in close contact with finance and accounting staff both locally and in IBM’s Centers of Excellence. Furthermore, it will proactively identify weaknesses in existing operations and identify solutions, to ensure that tax processes are in place and the correct outputs are delivered.

The management of our various business units will seek your expert advice on tax matters both in the local context, i.e. Egypt and across borders. In tax planning, you will be part of IBM’s global tax team, where you will support major international mergers and acquisitions and other strategic initiatives.

Corporate Income Taxes:
– Reviewing tax returns and facilitating tax payment.
Provides guidance to IBM’s accounting function on tax adjustments (permanent/temporal), tax audits for US tax deferred according to FAS109 and review of tax account reconciliations.
Prepare tax reports for the IRS, when required.
Preparing and updating transfer pricing documents in Egypt in cooperation with tax centers of excellence.
Liaise with tax authorities to ensure adequate documentation of tax audits is prepared, stored and managed with the assistance of external service providers.

withholding taxes:
Being responsible for the tax withholding process supported by IBM’s country accounting function, eg handling technical inquiries to ensure correct rates are applied to local and cross-border services.

Value Added Tax / Goods and Services Tax:
Reviewing VAT returns and VAT payments.
Ensure that adequate documentation is prepared and stored for tax audits
Liaise with the regional VAT team on international projects

Business support:
Providing tax advice and advice to IBM’s business and management units
– Review contract proposals and present tax position in conjunction with regional and global tax functions
– Track legislative changes in Egypt and proactively inform the local administration, finance and regional tax function
– Coordination with regional and global tax functions on international projects
Managing the tax aspects in Egypt of acquisitions and liquidations

Regulations:
Maintaining tax processes, identifying weaknesses, and implementing solutions
– Work as a SOX-Tax Process owner
Managing the contracts of the tax advisor in Egypt

Technical and professional experience required
– Bachelor degree
At least 7 years’ experience in corporate income tax, withholding tax and VAT/GST compliance matters
– Arabic and English: fluent

Preferred technical and professional experience
At least 9 years’ experience in corporate income tax, withholding tax and VAT/GST compliance matters
