Manama, Feb. 5 (BNA): The Ministry of Sustainable Development, along with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and United Nations offices, launched the preparatory process for the second voluntary national review of the Kingdom of Bahrain, today, February 5, in the capital. Manama, with more than 100 representatives from government bodies, the National Assembly, diplomatic missions, representatives from the United Nations and various other stakeholders attended the event. The Voluntary National Report is scheduled to be presented at this year’s High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in July which will be held under the theme “Accelerating Recovery from the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic and Full Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Development at All Levels.”
The event discussed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s efforts and plans to achieve sustainable development in various fields, which will be reflected in the second national report. The plan also outlined a broad consultative process that would reflect the spirit of Team Bahrain.
The Ministry of Sustainable Development, representing the Government of Bahrain, and the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Kingdom of Bahrain praised the strategic partnership and bilateral cooperation that was concluded between them, and the continuous cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which aims to share the Kingdom of Bahrain. Experience in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals with the international community.
The Ministry of Sustainable Development and the United Nations affirmed the ongoing partnership between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Nations, which comes as an extension of the United Nations Framework for Sustainable Development Cooperation signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations. They also emphasized the importance of holding this launch event and holding consulting workshops in the coming weeks. The workshops will see representatives from the public sector, the private sector, civil society, the National Assembly, academia, and organizations charged with empowering women and youth discuss the SDGs through the five pillars: People, Prosperity, Planet, Peace, and Partnership.
Participants in today’s event emphasized the importance of these joint efforts in providing support to the Kingdom of Bahrain and countless other member states of the United Nations in facing increasing global challenges. These efforts are essential in providing comprehensive policies and initiatives to achieve sustainable development through its economic, social and environmental dimensions.
It also strengthens the efforts of the Government of Bahrain in the field of environment and human development, in addition to protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms. This was reaffirmed at the fourth session of the Human Rights Council in November 2022.
