Suicide bomber kills 46 at Afghanistan mosque

Kabul, Oct. 8 (BNA) The state-run Bakhtar News Agency said that a suicide bomber attacked a mosque in Kunduz province, northeastern Afghanistan, on Friday, killing 46 people and wounding more than 140.

No group immediately claimed responsibility. The blast comes after several attacks, including one on a mosque in Kabul, in recent weeks, some of which have been claimed by ISIS.

The attacks highlighted security challenges facing the Taliban, which took control of the country in August and has since carried out operations against ISIS cells in Kabul, Reuters reported.

“There was an explosion this afternoon in a mosque… which resulted in the death and injury of a number of our citizens,” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on Twitter.

The Bakhtar news agency, run by the Information Ministry, said 46 were killed and 143 wounded in the blast.
