Students hone musical skills at Aga Khan Program workshops

Manama, March 17 (BNA) Students of the Bahrain School participated over two days in workshops hosted by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities within the framework of the Bahrain Cultural Spring.


On 15 and 18 March, the Aga Khan Program features distinguished musicians who will give creative music workshops for the first time in Bahrain to a number of school students and local musicians.


The workshops focus on unpacking the creative process at the heart of professional Aga Khan musicians at the juncture of traditional and contemporary music, along with a “jam session” of different musical instruments, as well as advanced lessons in intercultural improvisation and composition. .


Students from the Music Program at Bahrain Preparatory/Secondary School participated in the workshop on Tuesday and Wednesday.


Hear performances by prominent musicians from Syria, Tunisia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan playing viola damore, soprano saxophone, qanun, dutar, and frame drums.


After the performances, students were invited on stage to learn a song and play their instruments with the lead musicians.


“It was a unique and beautiful opportunity for our students, and we are grateful for the invitation from Reem Al Mulla and the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities,” said Erica Wootton, music teacher.
