Stellar performance by Bahrain students at DoDEA Dramafest

Manama, April 6 (BNA): Bahrain Preparatory/Secondary School students achieved an excellent performance, winning three gold, one silver and two bronze medals in the annual DoDEA Dramafest competition held in Wiesbaden, Germany.

DoDEA Europe Dramafest provides an enriching environment for students to create and showcase their artistic skills in theatrical monologues, duets and group presentations.

Veronica Shockery (12), Isabella Sheldon (11), Essie Siegrist (12), Athena Steward (10), Jaylen Thomas (12) and Logan Jacob (12) also participated as actors.

Each student prepared a monologue and paired it with another student actor for a duet piece.

The students also performed a group piece, a one-act play, “Hard Candy” for the combined schools.

Senior theater student Grayson Owens participated as the team’s artistic theater expert. Grayson worked with the team at Wiesbaden High School directing the ensemble show at the school’s black box theatre.

The performances were adjudicated by drama teachers from other schools, and the results for Bahraini students were as follows:

Gold Medal in Monologue – Jan Jacob
Gold Medal in Duo – Ysabella Sheldon and Athena Stewart
Gold in the Art Theater – Grayson Owens
Silver medal in duet – Jellene Thomas and Veronica Choukry.
Bronze Medal in Duo – Essie Siegrist and Logan Jacob
Bronze Monologue – Veronica Shockery, Athena Stewart, and Isabella Sheldon

Commenting on the group’s success, student sponsor and BMHS Drama teacher DeAnna Shaw-Berget said: “These young Thespians did an amazing job representing Bahrain Preparatory School at this district level event.”

“Every student was awarded a medal in at least one event. Not only did their individual talents shine, but they also put on a very hilarious and well-received piece of music.”

Shaw Birgit commended the Bahraini students for the way they are representing their school and supporting each other on this journey.

“This is probably the best group of students I have had the honor of accompanying on a school trip.”

The festival promotes the development of critical patrons of the dramatic arts and promotes the development of drama programs in the European region.

The philosophies are to prepare joint works (performance), receive feedback for growth (responsiveness), and develop an individual school program.
