general duties
• Consult with the surgical supervisor and inform him of activities, needs and problems. May take over department responsibility in the absence of a surgical room supervisor.
• Receive appointments from the Surgical Supervisor and Medical Director
• Review the caseload
• Check the humidity in the operating room and adjust it as needed
• Check patient records
• Collect all records needed to upload today’s case
• See essential equipment and supplies to perform surgeries in the operating room and coordinate with other staff in placement
• Check the ground conductivity
• Helping patients in the operating room
• Put the patient on the operating table. Position the patient
• Assisting in transporting the patient from the operating room to the waiting area safely
• Assisting the surgeon in the procedures
• Monitor sterilization techniques
• Ensure team compliance with infection control, health and safety manuals
• Ensure that the patient’s consent is complete and appropriately signed before starting the procedure
• Arrange supplies, instruments, solutions, and special equipment on the instrument table and tray to maximize effectiveness in dealing with and anticipating the needs of the surgeon as defined by the type of procedure
• Ensure that appropriate tools are readily available to the surgeon at all times
• Keep tools sterile and in their correct position
• Cleaning, filling and sterilizing tools
• Dispose of used sharps and ensure safe disposal of medical waste
• Supervise staff nurses when required

Work summary
Ensures smooth operation of the operating room and prioritizes adherence to surgical protocols while providing patient service that is in line with the mission of Muscat Eye Laser Center. You will support the surgery room supervisor and surgeons by ensuring that all resources are prepared and made available in time for surgery. You will also ensure that all conditions for a safe procedure are met prior to each surgery.

educational responsibilities

• Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations
• Training and supervision of new employees

Quality control
• Compliance with setting nursing standards, implementing and maintaining applicable center policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, environmental safety and infection control
• Collaborate with other employees to achieve goals and maintain a good relationship between employees and the public
• Be proactive and report non-conformities and opportunities for improvement

Qualifications / Skills Required:
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• Certified in CPR
• At least 3 years experience
• Experience in ophthalmology desirable
• Experience in the operating room as a surgical scrub nurse and a circulating nurse
• MS office experience and emails desirable
