Squid Game star chosen as Time’s 100 next generation leaders

SEOUL, Sept. 29 (BUS): Squid Game star Jung Ho-yeon has been chosen by US Time magazine as one of the 100 Rising Leaders by US magazine of the year.

Young was named in the phenomenal category of the 2022 Time 100 Next list, which also included American actress Sidney Sweeney and Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz.

The Time 100 Next list honors emerging leaders from around the world who are shaping the future and defining the next generation of leadership in five categories — artists, phenomenal, creators, leaders and advocates, according to the magazine. Jung was the only Korean actor on the list.

Squid creator Hwang Dong-hyuk gave a nod to the model actress.

Huang said, “I think Ho-yeon still fights every day against her fame, expectations and jealousy for her success, as well as her own desires. I often joke and call her a ‘warrior’.”

“There is no doubt that she has the skill and courage to fight her many battles. I hope that her acting career will become a real resting area, not her battlefield.”

Jung rose to international stardom for her role in Squid, winning Best TV Actress Awards at major US awards, including the Screen Actors Guild Awards. She was nominated for Best Dramatic Series Supporting Actress at this year’s Emmy Awards.

She signed with the American Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and has been cast in Hollywood films such as Alfonso Cuaron’s upcoming thriller series Disclaimer and Joe Talbot’s The Governesses.
