He pointed out that “His Majesty the King’s support and praise for Bahraini parliamentary diplomacy had a major role in hosting this international parliamentary gathering, and in enhancing the status and confidence that the Kingdom of Bahrain enjoys with the international community.”

The Speaker’s remarks came in a speech he delivered before the opening session of the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which was held today.

He welcomed the participants to the Kingdom of Bahrain, which believed in the principles of democracy more than 100 years ago when it witnessed the first popular municipal elections in 1912.

He stressed other milestones, citing the establishment of the King Hamad Center for Interfaith Dialogue and Peaceful Coexistence, the launch of the “Kingdom of Bahrain Document” to encourage peace efforts, and the opening of the King Hamad Chair for Interfaith Dialogue in Italy.
