Spain’s monkeypox case tally rises to 186, Health Ministry says

Madrid, June 3 / BNA / The Spanish health authorities reported 30 new cases of monkeypox on Friday, bringing the total number of infections to 186, which is the highest rate of spread of the current disease.

The viral disease occurs mostly in West and Central Africa, and only very rarely spreads elsewhere. But in an existing series of cases, more than 30 countries where monkeypox is not endemic have reported the disease — with more than 550 confirmed or suspected infections, most of them in Europe, Reuters reported.

Spain, England and Portugal are the most affected countries. Portugal confirmed five new infections on Friday, bringing the total number there to 143.
