Southampton dominates Brentford in 4-1 win

Southampton Jan. 12 (BNA): Southampton scored their biggest win in the Premier League this season, beating Brentford 4-1 with the new owner of the South Coast club.

Jan Bednarek, Armando Bruga and Che Adams scored an own goal and Southampton added an own goal from Brentford goalkeeper Alvaro Fernandez in a match rescheduled from December due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the Brentford squad, the Associated Press reports.

Brentford midfielder Vitaly Janelt canceled out Bednarek’s goal in the fifth minute from a James Ward-Prowse corner kick, but the hosts went ahead in the first half 2-1 after a goal goal.

Southampton’s win against new majority owner Dragan Solak moved the team into 11th place – two places and one point above Brentford. Solak’s Sport Republic recently bought an 80% stake in Chinese businessman Gao Jisheng.

It was the first time since 2017 that Southampton scored four goals at St Mary’s.

Brentford have lost three of their last four league games and visit Liverpool on Sunday.
