Jeong made the request during a meeting with Dutch Ambassador to South Korea Joan Dornward in Seoul.
The two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation in chips, nuclear power generation, hydrogen and other promising fields, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.
Jeong said the 240 billion won (US$175.73 million) project to build a semiconductor cluster in South Korea’s Gyeonggi Province by major Dutch chip equipment company ASML is being carried out without any hindrance and asked the Netherlands to consider South Korea as a key destination for the future. investment.
The ambassador said she is well aware of South Korea’s desire to nurture the chip industry and ensure stable supply chains, and suggested continuing consultations to enhance the multi-layer cooperation mechanism between companies, private enterprises and governments, according to the ministry.
Jeong also requested Amsterdam’s support for Seoul’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan, according to the ministry.
The ministry said bilateral trade rose in 2021 by 47% year-on-year to $14.97 billion despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
