Sony and Honda jointly making EVs for 2026 US delivery



Tokyo, Oct. 13 (BUS): A new electric car company that includes two big names in the Japanese business, Honda and Sony.

CEO Yasuhide Mizuno told reporters that the electric vehicle from Sony Honda Mobility Inc. It will go on sale in 2025, with shipments arriving first in the US in early 2026, and in Japan later that year. Pre-orders begin in 2025, according to the Associated Press.

In March, Sony Group Corp. and Honda on creating a 50-50 joint venture, with the goal of combining Honda’s expertise in automobiles, mobility technology and sales with Sony’s expertise in imaging, networking, sensors and entertainment.

Production will take place at one of Honda’s 12 plants in the US, but details such as pricing, platform and battery type were not disclosed. Production volume was also not mentioned, but officials said this was a special model and not intended for mass sales.

Mizuno, of Honda Motor Co., said the collaboration combines hardware and software to deliver an emotionally satisfying experience on the go.

The United States was chosen for the launch because electric cars are already popular there. Japan came in second as Honda’s domestic market, he said, and other markets will follow, including Europe, but no dates have been set.

Demand for “zero emissions” vehicles is expected to grow worldwide amid concerns about climate change and sustainability.
