Shanghai, June 30 (BUS): More than a thousand visitors flocked, Thursday, with the opening of the Walt Disney Company’s Shanghai Disney theme park, after a three-month closure, with face masks and social distancing an order of the day.
The park was closed on March 21 as cases in the Chinese business hub rose, resulting in a two-month citywide lockdown that was eased on June 1. to reopen, Reuters reported.
Among the first visitors on Thursday was Zhang Yudong, a 19-year-old student in the charming Mickey Mouse hat and T-shirt he wears for the occasion.
“I really feel like coming home. I was so excited,” said Zhang, who holds an annual Disneyland pass. “I was looking forward to this day. One of the questions I was asked every day was, ‘When will it reopen?'” “
Before closing in March, the park imposed COVID-19 measures requested by authorities, such as face masks and regular disinfection.
After reopening, guests are required to show evidence of a negative COVID test taken in the past 72 hours, in line with rules for public areas in Shanghai and other cities.
The park also said it would limit capacity, but did not elaborate, adding that some attractions, such as the Marvel Universe, would remain closed.
Shanghai Disneyland is a joint venture with China’s state-owned Shendi Group, which holds 57 percent of the shares.
