Senegal forward Sadio Mané a doubt for World Cup with injury

Munich, November 10 (BNA): Senegalese striker Sadio Mane doubts the World Cup after Bayern Munich said he will miss the last league match before the tournament due to a leg injury.

Bayern said the two-time African Player of the Year suffered a head injury to the fibula in his lower right leg, The Associated Press reported.

Bayern Munich did not specify how severe the injury was, saying only that Mane would not be available to play for Schalke on Saturday.

“Further tests will follow in the coming days,” Bayern said in a statement. “Bayern Munich is also in contact with the Senegalese Football Association’s medical staff.”

Mane was feeling uncomfortable after suffering a blow to the right leg early in Bayern Munich’s 6-1 win over Werder Bremen on Tuesday and was substituted in the 20th minute.

Mane scored the winning penalty to defeat Egypt on penalties in the Africa Cup of Nations final in February. He joined Bayern from Liverpool in June in a deal that could be worth 41 million euros ($41.3 million), depending on performance-related bonuses.

Senegal will play their opening World Cup match on November 21 against the Netherlands in Group A. Host country Qatar and Ecuador are also in the group.
