‘See you in January!” – Medvedev signals will play Australian Open

Melbourne, November 10 (BUS): World number two Daniel Medvedev has indicated that he will play in the Australian Open in January, as speculation continues over the availability of champion Novak Djokovic.

Medvedev, whom Djokovic defeated for the title in February, tweeted a photo of him holding the runner-up trophy at Melbourne Park with the caption: “See you in January! AustralianOpen.”

Medvedev said in late October he could not confirm he would play the tournament in the southern state of Victoria, where authorities said they would ban players who have not been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, Reuters reports.

The Russian refused to reveal his vaccination status, saying he preferred to keep his medical records private, a situation similar to that of world number one Djokovic.

Australia tennis coach Craig Tilley on Tuesday declined to answer any questions about the tournament regarding the status of players’ vaccinations.

Medvedev and Djokovic have had an interesting rivalry since the Australian Open, which the Serb won comprehensively.

Medvedev overturned Djokovic’s bid to win a 21st Grand Slam title in the US Open final in September.

Djokovic fixed Medvedev on Sunday to win the Paris Masters title for the sixth time, a record.
