Season’s coldest weather grips South Korea

Seoul, Dec. 14 (BNA): South Korea experienced the coldest weather of the season on Wednesday, the state meteorological agency said, with morning temperatures dropping to -15 degrees Celsius in some inland areas.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said the freezing temperatures were accompanied by strong winds, with wind speeds reaching 16 meters per second in some coastal areas.

In Seoul, morning lows fell to minus 11 degrees Celsius and an apparent temperature was nearly minus 20 degrees Celsius as of 7 am, Kuwait News Agency (KMA) reported.

The Meteorological Agency predicted that some northern parts of Gyeonggi Province surrounding Seoul will see temperatures drop to lows in the morning of minus 15 degrees Celsius, Yonhap reports.

On top of the bitterly cold weather, snow fell across much of the country overnight.

As of 6 a.m., more than 10 centimeters of snow had fallen in Yongin, just south of Seoul, Kuwait News Agency (KMA) said.

The agency said temperatures will remain cool until early next week.
