SCW strategy to protect women from violence highlighted

Manama, February 1 (BNA) The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women, Hala Al-Ansari, said that family and social stability is one of Bahrain’s national priorities.

She praised Bahrain’s steps supported by legislation and policies that promote gender balance and women’s effective participation in national development.

Al-Ansari gave a speech at a workshop hosted by the Arab Parliament in Cairo under the title “A Draft Law to Combat Violence against Women”.

She stressed the strategy led by the Supreme Council for Women to protect women from domestic violence, in partnership with experts and the competent authorities.

She cited the enactment of laws and legislation to combat domestic violence against women, the establishment of family protection offices in police departments at the state level, in addition to the prosecution of children and a national statistical database.

Al-Ansari pointed out that international reports revealed the escalation of violence against women worldwide since the outbreak of the epidemic, stressing the importance of activating systems for monitoring cases of violence against women on scientific and methodological grounds.
