SCH Chairman inaugurates hypertension detection campaign

Manama, May 17 (BNA): Under the auspices of Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Diabetes Association, he inaugurated a campaign to detect high blood pressure.

The head of the Supreme Council of Health stated that 10 million deaths annually are caused by high blood pressure, and that by detecting the disease early, the death rate will decrease.

He explained that the boycott movement, through its community programs, cares about people’s health in general and diabetics in particular, as studies have shown that high blood pressure is associated with many people with diabetes, which contributes to an increased risk of developing them. health and exposing them to complications such as weak heart muscle, strokes, cardiovascular disease and nephropathy.

Dr. Jalila bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, confirmed that high blood pressure is a serious pathological condition that greatly increases the risk of heart, brain and kidney diseases, and is one of the main causes of premature death in the world.

She indicated that, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), global estimates indicate that about 1.28 billion adults in the age group 30-79 years suffer from high blood pressure, and about 46% of adults with high blood pressure do not know. They have it, and less than half of adults with high blood pressure are diagnosed and treated.
