SCE Chairman: Bahrain committed to reducing plastic pollution

Manama, June 4 (BNA): His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain is one of the first countries to take measures to reduce plastic pollution in line with United Nations initiatives since 2019 through a number of national laws and legislation. The Kingdom joins the world in celebrating World Environment Day, which comes this year under the slogan “Solutions to Plastic Pollution”.

The head of the authority noted the importance of highlighting environmental issues on this day and continuing to address environmental challenges, which include waste management and reducing the effects of plastic pollution, especially plastic waste, and reusing it instead of disposing of it.

His Highness said that, based on the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the authority has developed many initiatives and studies to protect the environment and climate, indicating that these initiatives are being followed up by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad. His Highness Sheikh Abdullah stressed the role of the Ministerial Committee for Development and Infrastructure Projects in cooperation with partner government agencies, noting that the initiatives depend on the principle of extended product responsibility and support for recycling.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad indicated that reducing plastic pollution requires a social contribution, and urged all stakeholders to strengthen environmental cooperation to reduce waste and any potential plastic pollution affecting the environment.
