Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince announces Riyadh’s bid for World Expo 2030

Paris, October 29 / BNA / The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the request of the capital, Riyadh, to host the World Expo 2030 to the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the organizing body for the World Expo.

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh, said in a letter to the International Bureau of Exhibitions, published by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA): “We live in an era of change, and we face a need unprecedented for the collective action of humanity,” adding: “It is clear that the whole world, as a group, needs to work together to predict the future and engage with the minds, challenges and opportunities that emerge from this change.”

His Highness the Crown Prince confirmed that “Expo 2030 in Riyadh will coincide with the culmination of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.” Saudi Vision 2030 is a strategic framework to reduce Saudi Arabia’s dependence on oil, diversify its economy, and develop public service sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, entertainment and tourism, and was launched by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince in 2016.

His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman stressed that “this vision represents the Kingdom’s ambitions for the future. A vision that aims to harness the limitless energy of its youth to create a sustainable tomorrow for the benefit of future generations – where all citizens work to realize their dreams, exceed their hopes, and exceed their ambitions.

His Highness the Crown Prince added, “Expo 2030 will represent an exceptional opportunity for the world to share our lessons from this unprecedented transformation.”

Expo 2030 will take place from October 1, 2030 to April 1, 2031. The theme proposed by Saudi Arabia is “The Age of Change: Leading the Planet to a Foresight Tomorrow”.

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), the authority responsible for the city of Riyadh and chaired by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, will lead the Saudi bid to host the World Expo 2030.

Additional details of the proposal will be submitted to the BIE (the institution responsible for supervising and organizing world fairs since 1931) in Paris in December.

World fairs have been held since 1851 and provide the largest global platform to present the latest achievements and technologies, while uniting people across cultures and continents.
