Salmaniya Hospital denies patients’ death due to fungus

Manama, November 14 (BNA) The Salmaniya Medical Complex denied the death of a number of patients due to Candida fungi.

In today’s statement, the administration of the Sulaymaniyah Medical Complex rejected the allegations published by social and traditional media as incorrect, adding that the patients passed away due to health complications.

“Candida auris is a common fungus that causes oral infections, and is usually found in hospitals and health facilities all over the world, including developed countries and in the best health care institutions,” she added.

She added that these fungi do not pose a threat to the lives of patients as long as the infection is external and did not reach the blood and internal organs of the body.

She noted that the Candida auris fungi are found in hospitals along with other fungi, such as Acinetobacter MDR, Escherichia coli, ESBL, Enterobacter cloacae CRE and Staphylococcus aureus MR.

The SMC infection control team performs periodic routine checks to monitor any possible infection in the medical complex. The statement stated that a number of patients were detected after scanning the surface of the skin without causing any internal injuries or injuries to any organ.
