S Korea: Unidentified person crosses border into North Korea

SEOUL, Jan. 2 (BNA) The South Korean army said on Sunday that an unidentified man crossed the heavily fortified border into North Korea.

South Korea had earlier spotted the person carrying surveillance equipment in the eastern part of the border and sent troops to arrest him on Saturday evening. Joint Chiefs of Staff officers said troops failed to find the person and that surveillance equipment spotted the person crossing the border.

The Associated Press (AP) reported that South Korea sent a message to North Korea on Sunday morning to ensure the person’s safety, but North Korea did not respond, requesting anonymity citing administration rules.
