ROME, Jan. 17 (BNA): Milan lost little to its feet with a disappointing 2-1 loss at home to Spezia as the Rossoneri missed a chance to return to the top of Serie A on Monday.
Emmanuel Gyasi was left unmarked to end a counterattack and score the winner in stoppage time for Spezia, who were six points clear of the relegation zone.
This came moments after a potential winner Junior Messias canceled Milan because the referee shook hands with Rossoneri striker Ante Rebic while Rebic was passing the ball to Messias.
Referee Marco Serra quickly raised his hands in an apparent apology to the protesting Milan players, but refused to allow the goal, and assigned Milan a free kick instead, according to the Associated Press.
Then Spezia goalkeeper Ivan Providel jumped to stop Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s free kick. Seconds later, goalkeeper Ibrahimovic blocked again by tipping the 40-year-old forward’s header off the crossbar.
