Washington, Sept. 16 (BNA): Nick Senzel and Aristides Aquino hit singles at home as the Cincinnati Reds beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 on Thursday night to win six consecutive games in the opening game of a five-game series. .
The loss reduced the Cardinals’ Central National League lead to 7-1/2 games over the Milwaukee Brewers, according to the Associated Press.
St.Louis made it interesting in the ninth against rookie curator Alexis Diaz, loading the bases with a one-on-two and walk-through before being pulled into a round on the sacrifice fly by Albert Pujols, giving him a career 123rd and linking him with the Hall of Famer Robin Yount title Third in MLB history since 1954.

Anderson, who signed a minor league contract on August 27, faced the Cardinal twice last month and lost eight runs (seven gained), five hits and two runs over the course of 2 1/3 runs.
Senzel got the Reds on the scoreboard with his homer homer scoring two goals in the second half, while fly-away Jake Fraley made the 2-0 difference in third.
Paul Goldschmidt’s RBI double at the bottom of the third pushed the Cardinals 2-1. Homer Aquino’s two-goal in sixth pushed the Reds up to two spots.
It was his ninth this season but his fifth this month, and “Baseball is tough,” said Micholas. “You can have a few good starts and a couple of bad ones. The ball can bounce this way or that way.”
Cardinal’s right-hander Lars Knottbar saved an eighth in the game when he caught a line ahead and fired a ball into the net to double sprinter Stuart Fairchild to finish the game. This was his seventh on the field.
