PRINCETON, NJ, Dec. 29 (BNA): A month-long tribute to Toni Morrison at Princeton University, where the Nobel laureate taught for 17 years, will range from music created and performed by Grammy Award-winning vocalist Cecil McLaurin Salvant to a Spring Lecture Series and a two-year symposium Three Days featured author Edwige Danticat, among others.
The tribute will center on Toni Morrison: Sites of Memory, an exhibition drawn from her archives that explores her creative process through manuscripts, correspondence between her and other black women, photographs, and maps she drew while working on her acclaimed novel, Beloved. Rare drafts of her novel Song of Solomon and various unfinished projects.
The exhibition will be held at Princeton University Library from February 22 to June 4, reports the Associated Press.
“In imagining this initiative from the exhibition to the symposium to the partner projects, I wanted to show the importance of the archive to understanding Morrison’s work and practices. But I also wanted to show how this archive in particular is a site that opens up new lines of inquiry and research,” said curator Autumn Womack, Associate Professor. for Princeton English and African American Studies, in a statement released Wednesday: “It inspires new kinds of collaboration.”
Morrison, who died in 2019 at the age of 88, was also known for novels such as “Sula”, “The Blue Eye” and “Jazz”. She was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993.
