Princess Diana honoured with blue plaque at former London flat

London, Sept. 30 (BUS): The late Princess Diana was honored with a “blue plaque” at her former flat in West London where she lived before becoming engaged to Britain’s heir to the throne, Prince Charles.

The plaque is on the building that was her home between 1979 and 1981 – 60 Coleherne Court – a property near King’s Road in Chelsea, Reuters reports.

Diana, who died aged 36 in a Paris car crash in 1997, shared the apartment with three friends, including Virginia Clark, who helped unveil the painting at a party on Wednesday.

“Those were happy days for all of us, and the apartment was always full of laughter,” Clark said. “Diana has gone on to become a lot for so many. It’s great that her legacy is remembered in this way.”

Diana described her years on the property as “the happiest time of her life,” according to Andrew Morton’s book, Diana, in her own words.

The London Blue Board scheme, operated by English Heritage, highlights the buildings where famous figures from the past lived and worked.

On Princess Diana’s blue plaque reads: “Lady Diana Spencer, later Princess of Wales 1961-1997. She lived here 1979-1981.”

“Diana has been, and continues to hold, a very special place in the hearts of Londoners, and we are delighted to see the blue plaque she has officially placed as a memorial to her work for others,” said Andrew Bove, President of the London Council.
