London, August 28 (BNA): The Prince of Wales has edited a copy of the British African and Caribbean newspaper “The Voice” on the occasion of its fortieth anniversary.
Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, said he was “deeply moved” to be asked to amend the version, which will feature interviews with film star Idris Elba and Baroness Doreen Lawrence, the campaign mother of Stephen Lawrence, who was killed in a racist attack in 1993.
Elba, the black British actor who has starred in “The Wire” and several Marvel films, told the weekly, due to be published on September 1, that a grant from Charles’ youth charity, The Prince’s Trust, at age 16 “opened the doors that changed my life “.
Baroness Lawrence will describe a new partnership between the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation and The Prince’s Foundation, another charity, to offer polytechnic scholarships to young people from diverse backgrounds affected by social and economic inequality, the AP reports.
Speaking of the publication, Charles said: “Over the past four decades, with all the tremendous changes they have seen, Britain’s only surviving black newspaper has become an institution and a crucial part of the fabric of our society.
“That is why I am so moved by your call to amend this special edition.”
