Powerful Hurricane Fiona roaring by Bermuda, then to Canada

San Salvador, Sept 23 (BNA): Hurricane Fiona, a Category 4 hurricane, hit Bermuda with torrential rain and wind early Friday as it swept through the island on a path expected to approach northeastern Canada late in the day. Powerful Storm.

Authorities in Bermuda opened shelters and closed schools and offices ahead of Fiona AP’s reports.

The Canadian Hurricane Center has issued a hurricane watch over swathes of coastline in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland.

The US National Hurricane Center said Fiona should reach the area as a “strong post-tropical cyclone with hurricane-force winds.”

Hurricane Fiona, a Category 4 hurricane, hit Bermuda with heavy rain and wind early Friday as it swept through the island on a route it was expected to approach northeastern Canada late in the day as a still-strong storm.

Fiona has so far been blamed for at least five deaths – two in Puerto Rico, two in the Dominican Republic and one on the French island of Guadeloupe.
