Power cuts, traffic snarls as India’s tech hub endures second day of floods

Bengaluru, Sept. 6 (BNA): Many parts of Bengaluru’s technology hub in India were inundated for a second day on Tuesday as more rain fell in the unusually rainy monsoon season, causing traffic chaos, power outages and inundation of properties.

The city, home to many global companies as well as local startups, has received 162% more rain than average since the start of the rainy season on June 1, Reuters reported.

Reuters partner ANI showed in a video that many companies have asked their employees to work from home while some residents struggle to empty flooded basements and shops.

The Bengaluru Water Supply Corporation said on Monday it will stop water supplying more than 50 districts of the city for two days after a pumping station fetching water from 100 km away was flooded.

The Bangalore metropolitan area, which houses most of the city’s offices, received 79.2 mm (3.1 inches) of rain on Monday, according to data from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
