Pope condemns attack on Iraqi PM as vile act of terrorism

Vatican City, November 10 (BNA) Pope Francis condemned the drone attack on the home of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, describing it as an “evil terrorist act.”

Al-Kadhimi escaped unharmed when three drones loaded with explosives were fired at his home in Baghdad on Sunday. Reuters reported that a number of his guards were wounded.

The Vatican said its foreign minister sent a letter to the prime minister on behalf of the pope, who visited Iraq in March.

In condemnation of this despicable terrorist act, His Holiness And once again expresses its confidence that the Iraqi people, with the blessing of God the Most High, will be assured of wisdom and strength to walk the path of peace through dialogue and fraternal solidarity.

Iraqi security officials and sources in Baghdad said the drone attack was carried out by at least an Iranian-backed group, weeks after pro-Iranian groups were defeated in an election they say was rigged.
